Von Torres [he, him, his] is a professor in the English and Library Department at Clovis Community College. His teaching practices are guided by postsecondary reading and writing engagement, culturally relevant curriculum, the pedagogy of joy, and community care.
Along with teaching, he is also a writer and events organizer. He is currently a staff member and was the Executive Director from 2021-2022 of LitHop Fresno, Fresno's annual literary arts festival. His poetry has appeared in TAYO Literary Magazine and VERSES TYPHOON YOLANDA: A Storm of Filipino Poets. He has self-published two chapbooks: HELLO my name is and "F" Sounds. He co-wrote and contributed to four entries in The SAGE Encyclopedia of Filipina/x/o American Studies.
Von attended Fresno City College where he became a student of poetry and transferred to San Francisco State University where he received his B.A. and M.A. in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Poetry along with graduate certificates in the Teaching of Composition and Post-Secondary Reading.
During his time in the San Francisco Bay Area, he taught Ethnic Studies in San Francisco Unified School District, City College of San Francisco, and Skyline College through the teacher training and service-learning/learning-service program, Pin@y Educational Partnerships (PEP). Upon his return home to Clovis in 2014, he taught as an adjunct at Fresno City College and, what was then known as, Clovis Community College Center.
He was a 2016-2017 Sharing History Germanacos Fellow with the oral history organization, Voice of Witness.
